Greek, Despicable, Eclipse, Predators, Jeep

Movies:

"Get Him to the Greek" is supposed to be a gross out comedy with a heart of gold. It almost succeeds. Jonah Hill comes as close to acting as he ever has, and Russell Brand is very nearly entertaining doing his standard Russell Brand thing. I went into this movie with extremely low expectations, and they were sort of met.

"Despicable Me" is deeply flawed, but a lot of fun anyway. Most of the best bits were in the trailers, but there are a few surprises, and many of the second string jokes are still funny. We loved the minions.

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is the best movie of the series so far; it's kind of a shame that I am just so burned out on the series at this point. Bella is slightly less of a dishrag than in the earlier installments; Edward is slightly less irritating, but still a hopelessly self-centered, arrogant putz; the other Cullens are progressively more interesting, and Alice remains adorable. I am not so much tired of these movies as I am tired of the fans. Ah, well.

"Predators" is a pretty decent horror movie. It isn't as good as the original, mostly because it lacks the humor that Arnold usually brought to his movies. If we have to have a steady diet of remakes and "reboots", may they all be at least this good.

In other news... I had my mechanic give the Jeep a post trip, post crash once over. The crash didn't damage the frame to speak of, but they DID find advanced frame rot that makes the thing pretty much unsafe to drive. This is both financially inconvenient and kind of sad; I have had the Jeep for nine years and something like 55,000 miles, including two trips to Maryland and three to Texas. It is cold in the winter, hot in the summer, has a teeth jarringly rough ride, and has always been quirky in small ways. I have rolled it over and boiled it over. We will not replace it instantly, but soon. I will miss it a great deal.
