We were unable to get to the new "Pirates" movie until 3:00; we went in costume, and it was appreciated, since about half the theater staff was also in costume.
There was a trailer for a new TNT series called "Saving Grace" that has failure written all over it; it looks like dark Christian drama. Dark drama fans will stay away from the Christianity, and Christian drama fans will stay away from the darkness, and regardless of how good it may actually be, no one will watch. Who thought this was a good idea?
And now... No spoilers, just some really minor hints: "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."
I think, when all is said and done, I like the Pirates trilogy BETTER than "The Lord of the Rings". It's close; I am HEAVILY invested in "The Lord of the Rings", but LotR doesn't have square riggers or flintlocks, or Liz Swann...
Yeah, it's that good. Loads of Tricksterism (Jack IS Br'er Rabbit, after all), interesting metaphysics, lots of mythic content, very little stupid stuff to amuse the 8 year olds, and TONS of action, with a fair amount of humor.
Look for authentic pirate flags: I saw Blackbeard, Bart Roberts, Henry Avery, and of course Jack Rackham.
How many actresses get to pull a Henry V riff at the age of 21, AND pull it off?
