GenCon Post Mortem

GenCon this year reminded me of everything I love, and everything I hate, about gaming cons. There is a reason (other than distance) that I haven't been to GenCon since 2002...

In short, too many people, too much noise, too much money spent, not enough fun. That isn't to say I had NO fun, but I won't be back again for a LONG time.

FINALLY getting to play in one of Steve Lortz's "Scurvy Dawrgs" pirate miniature games on Saturday night. Steve has been telling me stories about this game for something like fifteen years, and it was a lot of fun to finally play it. The game supports up to seven players, and we had six briefly, though only four for most of the session. The big winners were the cannibals, who hauled away three of Captain Errol Hawkblood's crew to be sacrificed to their dark god. Hawkblood himself managed to rescue the Governor's daughter just long enough to die in her arms...

On Sunday morning I took Rook the sock gnoll on a photo tour of the con, which I will post here once I get all of the photos uploaded.

It was good to meet the Rick Loomis of Flying Buffalo, and the folk at Skirmisher; I helped them tear down on Sunday, and spent more quality time with them after the con was over than while it was going on. They are a pleasantly demented bunch.
