Fighting, Obsessed, Poker, Girlfriends

On Wednesday I saw two really lame movies; on Thursday I hid from the rain and blodged; on Friday I went to a staff meeting, visited my parents, and played poker (with a fair amount of visiting with my brother along the way), and on Saturday we did the usual lunch/movie/pizza routine, with some errands along the way.

"Fighting" can't decide if it wants to be a come-from-behind sports movie or a gritty urban slice of life; it therefore fails at both. And then there is the fact that the main character's fighting style seems to consist of wearing out the other guys fists against his own face, and then slamming his opponent into the architecture...

"Obsessed" is pretty much a PG-13 remake of "Fatal Attraction", except that the triggering adultery never happened. Eye candy casting notwithstanding, the movie isn't believable enough to be interesting.

"Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" is a very decent romantic comedy. The comedy works; the romance works. Some of the supporting characters are painfully thin (in particular, Lacey Chabert as the Bride From Hell), but you can't have everything...

Poker went well enough; once again, I finished squarely in the middle of the pack. Unfortunately, Texas Hold 'Em tends to reward players who call everything, and the group had rather too many of those...
