My mother died this evening at about 7:15 PM. She had developed CDI, an opportunistic bacterial infection that often occurs when the normal fauna of the GI tract have been mauled by broad spectrum antibiotics. She had been hospitalized for somewhat less than 24 hours this time around. (For those who came in late: my mother had advanced Alzheimer's.)
My head is fine with this. I counseled my father, earlier today, that it was ok for him to be unsure what outcome he wanted. Intellectually, I know that my mother's death is the best thing for everyone, including her.
Eventually, the knot in my stomach will believe that.
