Hereafter, Paranormal, Poker

"Hereafter" is the latest from Clint Eastwood, a sleepy, apparently meandering love story in which near-death experiences are the maguffin. I say "apparently" because every scene and every line is relevant, but the pattern is hard to see until the film is over. Pretty much everything about this movie succeeds perfectly at what Eastwood wanted it to do, with the significant exception of the title. The is a slow, subtle movie, which is to say it is NOT for everyone, but Dementia liked it a great deal, and I liked it more.

"Paranormal Activity 2" is very much of a piece with its predecessor, except that this time it has all been done before. On the other hand, this movie does NOT feature the stupidest character in the history of cinema. One thing that none of the publicity bothers to mention is that this is a prequel of the earlier movie; the doomed couple from the first film are minor characters in this one. It would have helped to know that going it.

While leaving "Paranormal", I had occasion to meet an on line friend, one Virgina Jones, in person for the first time. She proved to be as charming and intelligent as she seems to be on line. Of course, given the company she keeps (which led to my encountering her in the first place), I should not be surprised.

I have been playing Texas Hold'Em on line lately, some 2200 hands in the last three months. I have managed to parlay 1000 chips into more than 1.4 million, and (at best) came in second (out of 729) in a three tier shoot out tourney. It would seem to be time to make a small (REALLY small) investment in real money on line poker.

Yesterday, I made up my mind to take the Toyota in to deal with some minor body rot that was only going to get worse if left untreated for another winter. Of course, as soon as I made that decision, I had a minor parking lot incident, and now have to have BOTH rear corners worked on. Ah, well, we are stupidly sentimental about the Toyota, and it wasn't THAT painful.

Winter is coming up fast. I hate winter, for so many reasons.
