Popper, Teacher, Crowne, Carlo, Walking

Once again, egregiously behind. C'est la vie.

"Mr. Popper's Penguins" is based on a book that my father read to us when we were pre-literate, I think. I remember liking it a great deal, back in the day. The current version, re-shuffled for the talents of Jim Carrey, is pleasant enough. This is a simple-minded, warm fuzzy kind of movie, and that is just fine with me.

"Bad Teacher" is an R-rated comedy that manages to maintain enough bite that the cheap jokes don't overpower it. This is a REALLY neat trick for a movie with no significant violence...

"Larry Crowne" is a kind of "coming of middle age" story, filled with eccentric characters and lots of warm fuzzy. My tolerance (and perhaps need) for warm fuzzy has been high, lately...

"Monte Carlo" is a REALLY fluffy coming of age story with a fair amount of romance thrown in. It is silly and sweet, and never QUITE became obnoxious. (I realize that this means I have just written four consecutive fairly positive reviews for movies that do not contain a single significant act of violence among them. This worries me...)

I did a lot of walking last week, three miles on June 23, five on June 25, and seven on June 26, all without significant mechanical problems. I find this encouraging...
