"The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" is more of the some, mostly. This is generally a good thing, given the cast. Too much of the movie is given to the Dev Patel plotline, which is a rehash of some of the more uncomfortable bits of John Cleese's "Fawlty Towers". The REST of the movie pays the freight, though.
"Focus" is yet another grifter movie about con games that DO NOT WORK. The first half hour or so, which focuses on a pick pocket/ identity theft ring in New Orleans during the Super Bowl, is magical. The rest of the movie, not so much.
"Cinderalla" is, inevitably, pastry. It MUST be sweet and insubtantial. Fortunately, in this case, it is also very, very good. Lily James plays the central character solidly; she comes across as sweet and good without being stupid, which is difficult. The scene in which Cinderella enters the ball, on which the whole story hangs, is REALLY well done. We enjoyed it a great deal. Of course, the argument is often made, and with reason, that the whole story is toxic, because it teaches young women to wait for rescue from the outside, regardless of how bad her circumstances might be. All of which brings up MY take on the story, as related here: http://unclehyena.livejournal.com/109844.html (It will take less than ten minutes to read, and I am proud of it.)
I went to another Ingress First Saturday event on the 7th, and had a good time, even though I wasted my time, game wise. The goal was to gather as much experience (AP) as possible in a two hour span; the average for the whole gathering was 105,000; I ended up with 20,000. I had some good conversation, but would have been better off being anti-social and gaming on my own. I went back to the same place and picked up 80,000 AP in about an hour on Thursday.
I turned 59 on Sunday. There were nearly 70 birthday wishes on Facebook (for which I am very grateful), the now traditional grilled cheese sandwiches and cherry pie, and a new hat. Life goes on.
