Bats, Gibbons, and Marvin

Thursday was the 21st anniversary of our first kiss, among other things; this led to Dementia taking Friday off, and we went to Brookfield zoo. We spent most of an hour watching the Rodrigues Fruit Bats (amazingly photogenic and charming critters), and another hour watching the gibbons (and the orangoutans, which were in the same general area, but the gibbons were the show stealers). Then we came back north and watched "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".

"Hitchhiker's" was a lot of fun; they captured the spirit of the books quite well, even though they took ENORMOUS liberties with the plot. Of course, the books were never really ABOUT the plot anyway, so that matters little. And I am strongly inclined to like any story that incorporates the phrase "mad as a balloon" and uses it with admiration and significant affection.

And once again, remember that if you really WANT a space ship shaped like a sleek silver running shoe, you can pull the engine nacelles off of the USS Voyager and fly her backwards.
