Bad Day

So I was on my way to an appointment with the sleep therapist, cruising down the interstate at 60-odd mph, and I heard an odd noise. I looked down at the gages, and found that the temperature gage was pegged. I pulled over and found that the engine had already boiled over, and that the reason was that the serpentine belt had vanished, which meant that the water pump had stopped turning...

I restarted the engine after about fifteen minutes and drove for about 90 seconds, and then repeated the process. This got me off of the interstate and into a car dealer's parking lot. They couldn't help me, but they put me in touch with another dealer a mile away, at least on foot. Due to construction, it was quite a bit more than that by car. So I walked, and then spent four hours waiting for my car to be towed in. It arrived about an hour before Dementia came by to bring me home, and they still hadn't had a chance to look at my car.

If I'm lucky, the block will cool without warping, and I will be back on the road tomorrow. It's an iron engine; it might happen. Otherwise, the repair cost (valve job, at least) will probably exceed the value of the vehicle. I so very much do NOT want to go through the car shopping process at this time...
